Sometimes I have seen them coming up between tiles inside the houe and builing what looks like stalacmites. In Australia, particularly with older houses, they may build these tunnels in the under-floor space where no-one is watching. In a small Kaliasem house we use, the termites are actively building these clay tunnels and we knock them down. But in a nearby house which was empty for a while - they did get some door frames. (Narrow spaces between a wall and a fence - like too narrow for humans to go - could be a hazard.) But, mostly keeping watch may be enough - and I think many houses get by OK without using chemicals.
