Well Tabanan is hardly West Bali - so your request is a puzzle. If you head towards the coast from Tabanan, you are in the vicinity of Tanah Lot - plenty of potential. But if you do mean West Bali, then the place on the south coast that seems to have potential is Negara. Alternatively, in the west on the north coast, Pemuteran would have potential.

On arrival here one of the areas I also looked at for house building was Tabanan towards the Negara road area. There are some lovely spots there, particularly a little off the beaten track with some fantastic rise field views.

One small niggle (but definitely not a show stopper) was the lack of "western" infrastructure - shops, good restaurants, etc. and most of the beach near property was gone to other investors. So any land that I found available was either in the hands of real estate vultures or so far away from the coast it might as well have been in Kintamani. But there are some beautiful areas.

The problem would be your materials for your houses. I think it will cost a lot for transportation and for the supplies.

Megati, Bajera, Antosari have some very scenic land options. I have recently bought 30 Are in Megati, abt a 1 km north of the main highway. Great land with Ocean, mountain, rice paddy and forest views and lots of natural water. Prices still very reasonable ranging from 15 to 20 Mil/Are. Tabanan town being the closest, caters to daily needs and all building materials. I opted to buy in the hills, as its much cooler and a safe distance from the ocean (tsunami proof), as i believe that the BIG ONE has yet to come.

I know a few others who have bought land around Gajah Mina and Medewi....great for surfers... very scenic. This part of Bali anxiously awaits the long awaited SUNSET HIGHWAY. BTW anyone have the lastest on the proposed highway?....
