The banjar is the group or committee who run the ceremonies and administration of the village

The head of the banjar is the kelihan banjar. Security that usually wear black are satpam and I have never seen a wedding performed by one.

We were married by a priest dressed all in white.

adat "security" I'm pretty sure they are called 'Pecalang'...they usualy handle traffic and parking at ceremonies...not the actual ceremony, that (the ceremony) is performed by a 'empu' and there's another name for it too, but slipped my mind at the moment  . there are 2 or 3 levels of priests and mimpi's right, all in white, at least the ones I've seen were. btw, not everybody is allowed to wear white, so i've been told..

btw2, pecalang is also 'responsible' to check if anyone breaks the rules a Nyepi.
    friendly greetings, gilbert.

Yep, You know marriage, like any relationship, has two people involved in it....Im little confused that why Banjar are entitled to allow marry or not
In other words, the Baliness have not yet freed themselves from their feudal tradition of arranged marriages in village, normally people can choose whom they will marry and when to marry, that's understandable people here had little freedom for marriage

We know everyone gets married for different reasons,
some for money/ social standard,and/or convenience, some out of desperation,or for companionship or simply for reasons of love.

Personally I beleive in a marriage based on a similar set of values and beleifs. makes for a more successful long term situation in my understanding. You know sitting on the porch when your 70 and enjoying a "heart and mind connection" when all else has gone, and hoping the mind is still working for you 8) .
    values and beliefs= communication=understanding=affinity= nice formula !

Therefor, the fact that one HAS to become any religion to satisfy another (not saying if you beleive in that change and in that religion. Fine !) but to do so just for the sake of getting married and pleasing someone is a total denial of yourself and your own beleifs. Its not as if i like red chairs and you like green, okay let it be.. but this is buying into a total "beleif system" its a little hypocritical in my view. i dont buy it. Its the same as okay im a communist so im going to change to fascist to make you happy !!! These are beleif systems.

I was reading Berts posts above and how he gave himself to his partners religion etc, etc,
well what did that get him in the end.. IF THE VALUES WERE DIFFERENT. ?

Ive been thinking of Bert, I hope he is doing well.
