    Default expat website for Balinese?

My friend has just returned from Bali with his Balinese wife and son to live in the UK. He has asked me to find other Balinese [if I can] in the UK for his wife to socialise with. I have just spent a couple of hours googleing to no avail.
So the question to all you wonderful people is; Does anyone know of a UK, Balinese expat web site which might be of some use?

Seems like quite a narrow niche. I don't know of any, but maybe better off looking for an Indonesia expat website, and then find the Balinese people out of there. Bali only has 3 million Balinese, which is not very many, and means even less are abroad. Good luck.

    Look here:

    http://www.expat.or.id/orgs/srikandi.html

Although they don't seem to active now on the net.

I have seen sites before but can't remember.

She could try http://www.facebook.com though. I have found several groups that could suit her, like "Indonesian community in the UK" and "Anak Indo di UK" ....
    That's It !!

Most Indonesians in the UK are there studying or married to an english person. You might want to try the university website but I suppose that depends on where she is in the UK. I know Manchester has quite a few but how many Balinese I am not sure.

From a personal point of view she might well be better cultivating local english friends.

I have a friend in UK, near Brighton, who used to be married to an Indonesian and I know there was quite a big Indonesian expat community down there. Where in UK is your son. If its not too far I will ask if the friend knows if that community have any sort of website etc. Iam sure they used to organise events.

Not me, but I haven't tried searching.

Are there any Indonesian restaurants in or around Brighton? If so, there might be some Indonesian people there who know of some Balinese in the area.

I would also check Brighton University and the University of Sussex. Even some of the bigger universities in the UK. You never know...there could be a gamelan group, or a bunch of Indonesian students somewhere.

I mention universities because I was surprised to find a vibrant Balinese community at the University of Sydney, (Australia), several years ago that did have a gamelan!

Community FM radio stations can be useful too.

(Sorry, I've only been to Brighton once, nearly 30 years ago and all I remember is a rather rocky "beach" and The Who movie called Quadrophenia.)

Just try Facebook. There are hundreds of members of Indo - UK groups. Besides that Facebook is very popular with Indonesians. (and Balinese)
