Well, I'm also not a big fan of charades, but apart from the money I think Balinese in general are big on hospitality. As always, money helps you to remember. IMO we are not much different. We just dress that flashing grin up with neck ties, expensive suites and brotherly hand shakes instead.

Either way, if I must chose between an on-the-brink-of-death-bored-waitress only interested in her eyelashes and cellphone at an arbitrary over charging european big city restaurant and the exaggerated smiles and blissfulness of a balinese family business, any day - it has to be the latter!

You know what Markit... get over yourself darling, yeah yeah, you now live in Bali.. you are special....

    but. no.. you 're not.
No more special than those holiday makers who do remember the place, staff and good time they had and just want to feel good about returning.
    Don't be so bloody condescending.
my karma ran over my dogma

Just off the top of my head I reckon the only good reason for returning to a hotel/restaurant year for year is the familiarity that comes with it - both from the the staff understanding/remembering what and how you like things and for you in the fact that the establishment offers you a quality of service that you enjoy and can then expect.

Nothing wrong with this at all - I love it too.

Now my problem with the squealers is that IMHO they just exhibit for all to "enjoy" an embarrassing level of insecurity with the heart rending need to be recognized/remembered, and here's the main point - they need us all to see this happening. It's and exhibition that I really don't want to take part in because it presumes we all agree - and I don't. I'm embarrassed to be part of it - maybe it's just me?

I just hoped with this thread that I might straighten out just 1 or 2 deluded tourists and maybe make dining out just that little less painful.

    Aint no big thang!

I sense I have hit the target here and get that warm fuzzy feeling...lol

You know what would be a good invention, an e-tampon for some of these highly over sensitive forum dwellers .

As for the over joyed returning tourists, I've seen these people before, some what harmless people yet totally embarrassing. I usually hide behind the nearest menu
