I read a posting on another forum about this and it was well thought out.

It was commenting on the 2 year old not the 4 year old. Basically he said that in the 50's and 60's images of children smoking were quite common in the west. Smoking was seen as a good thing, we hadn't learnt of the adverse effects of smoking and the addictive nature of nicotine. He also posted links to photos of western children smoking.

He also pointed out that in the case of Rizal his father is a fisherman with little education, he sees Rizal as being otherwise healthy. The father doesn't know that it is harming his child. There is a serious health issue that needs to be addressed obviously by the Government.

The Tobacco company should be held accountable to an extent. Poring praise and ordaining the father as Person of the Century is an astonishing move when executives know of the health concerns related to smoking. The fact that they applaud this pathetic situation can only indicate their complete disregard for human life. Only in Indonesia eh?

Sully, when I saw these videos what I felt was disgust and outrage but you've thought it through more deeply than I did. You're right, of course. The parents don't realize the unseen harm they're probably doing to their child.

Some televised governmental public service spots about health on many issues could go a very long way to help educate people.

I think itīs strange move by the government, they said "if the kid quit smoking weīll buy the parents a car" (spiegel online TV) WHAT?????

Honestly I think they couldnīt care less about this kind, but now itīs in the news....

They are plenty of parents want to have a car what if they all teaching their kids now how to smoke?

"Come on Junior smoke more, Papa wants to have a car!"

Excuse my cynicism but isnīt that the logical move by unemployed and uneducated people if they see that in TV? Or donīt they send this in local TV?

I have watched similar videos going around in youtube about an infant who's already addicted to smoking because he's father introduced it. I'll post the link if anyone here don't know about it yet.

Good news. Ardi Rizal, the 2-year old kid from Sumatra, is cutting down on his smokes: he's now down from 40/day to 15!

I think the child should be put into a special rehabilitation not only for his smoking habits but also for his recovery for his future lifestyle as a normal kid.
