Default Being able to do nothing

Today, I was at my sister's graduation ceremony for her receiving her masters. In front of me, were this little kids running around crying, throwing things, and causing a ruckus. The parents frantically got them something to keep themselves occupied, but that shortly got tossed onto the floor.

I then remembered being at numerous ceremonies were the children sat peacefully in someone's lap as they glanced around quietly with no whining or complaining.

This then made me realize one of the things I love about Bali. How sitting around and doing nothing is perfectly acceptable. In the USA, if we are sitting around, we are wasting time. We could be doing something productive. But in Bali, it's not like that. Time is much more relaxed which I love because it allows me to fully experience whatever is going on during that time, instead of the to-do list I have running through my head.

    Default i agree

"doing nothing" is a wonderful concept .......... in fact i spend most of my existence here in bali "doing nothing" as in doing nothing by the western conception of the phrase - i spend the majority of my time here walking on the beach, eating fabulous food, having great sex and sleeping ....... yet these are the most fulfilling moments of my life the moment ..... god help the consumerist, work ethic oriented pleb's back in the west

That could only apply to those who have the resources to waste time from doing nothing. Also, isn't it odd to connect the idea of doing nothing to the child's ruckus during the wedding. Maybe discipline to make yourself relaxed at some period of time to rid yourself of stress is the feasible idea of that. Not avoiding work and do nothing at all... just a thought from me though...

There is too much suffering in the world to be lazy and it's boring too.

I do not think the remarks are about being lazy but more about doing nothing. I am however interested in the remark about suffering.

How do you propose to end it by doing what exactly.

It's naive to think that suffering can be ended.

I believe in the concept of Noblesse Oblige which preculdes making doing nothing a career choice. Is the interrogation over?
