    Default AC problems

I woke up this morning, feeling hot and tried to turn on the AC. Nothing happened. Tried changing the batteries in the remote and it still wouldn't turn on. Yesterday it was working fine.

I organized for a repairman and just as he came, the power went off, making it a little difficult to diagnose the problem. Later on in the afternoon when the power came back on, I heard the beep of the AC and it turned on again without a problem.

    I wonder what's going on?

It may have overheated and turned itself off and then reset itself but what I suspect is that it got iced up and after being off the ice melted and it reset. On the other hand I may be wrong :-)

I think you are right. Usually when it iced up don't work properly (not enough cold air coming out)

If it was a bad power day, maybe the electricity was off when you woke up.

If you have a "universal" remote control for your AC, maybe it reset itself to the wrong number when the power went off. Overheating and icing-up are also possible.

The fuse box for your house might have crummy components for the circuit breakers causing them to trip unnecessarily. Better quality replacements are very cheap, both to buy and have installed. I had this problem a few months ago - couldn't turn on both of my ACs at the same time with anything else running, like TV/computers/refrigerator.

The "best" quality replacement cost Rp 35,000. At the time, we had a number of other minor things to repair and the total cost was Rp 100,000. So far, so good, with nearly everything running at the same time.

And leyak, of course. Has your AC been properly blessed, all the right offerings applied and so on?
I'd also check for rats eating the wiring, especially in your ceilings...

The electricity was on when I woke up. The area where I live was apparently having problems which is why they must have turned it off for maintenance, rather than a PLN outage. I have two circuit breakers in my house, so I was thinking that maybe the AC is on a different circuit? Which might explain why it was the only thing that didn't work in the morning.

Anyway, all is fine now and the repair guy replaced two taps, cleaned the filters in the AC and cleaned the gas hot water heater - total cost of 150K including the two new taps.

    Hi homer,

we got similiar or same problem in our house (located Jl. Pantai Brawa, Canggu-Kerobokan): AC off/AC on. Fridge off/fridge on, washing machine off (and NOT on again), it was really maddening.

I bought a Voltmeter a few weeks ago in Bintang Mall and I checked the voltage supply of our house: From 200 V it dropped down to 160, 150 V and even lower. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for hours. And of course the equipment with high consumption (AC, washing machine etc) switched off at 170, 160 Volt. TV, radio, lights were still on - so no problems with that stuff. Nobody could help us, just only telling to buy a "stabiliser" (which - of course - cannot help against undervoltage).

Since a few days the voltage is now stabil - around 190 - 210 V. But nobody can tell you why its stabil now and what was wrong before.

So we hope its ok now and PLN made some repairs in our area and the problem is solved (just dreaming).

    Hi Wepro
I had the same problem in my rented house in Denpasar started every after noon around 17.30 and did continue until around 22.30.
The voltage dropped below 140 volts we have a stabiliser (the stabiliser don't work below 160 volts) the stabiliser did cut the electricity supply on and off on and off all the time, it was like a nightmare, and i suppose that it's not good for the electric devices eighter.
We phoned the PLN emergency number 123 a few times but they couldn't come before 23.00 when the electricity was ok. again, so we went to the PLN main office and could manage to have a reparation team at our house Tuesday night around 19.00 , they checked everything and told us that in our area there are power problems not enough of power for all the area during peak hours and that our house was the last one on the line.
They did also checked the cables in the box up on the pole outside our house and i think they switched our supply with a neighbour and for now on everything works well for us (i hope the neighbour will be ok., the team from PLN told us the neighbour had a supply that was to big for he's asked power supply only 900 Watts, we have 4.400 Watts)
It's funny that it's very difficult to find serious workers in Bali before we did contact PLN we had 3 different electricians coming to our house , the first one told us that we had ghost in our house playing with the stabiliser, that we should give food to the ghost every day, the second told us it's a problem with our stabiliser (bought only 2 weeks ago and that had already been checked) he said it's to big and it's not hot enough it's not normal, the third one told us it's a problem with the cables and i was surprised how can it be a problem with the stabiliser or the cables that don't work only between 17.30 and 22.30 ?
So i believe that after PLN made works in your area, you will be ok. for now on Wepro.
    Regards
    Andy
