There is a classfied section on the site, so if you post requirement's there, you might get people to respond.

Of course you can also use agents in the area you want to live, classifieds in the Bali advertiser and by contacting owners directly.

Generally you have to pay one year's rent in advance.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.

    Hello Jadebecca,
the best would be if you know where you like to stay, go there for at least on week in a hotel and ask around in the restaurants or shops around .... anyone will know anyone who know .... it work and you dont need any agent or other moneymaker.
    Good luck !!

Olsig is right. The best way to take it is through finding them yourself in real time 'cause some places aren't the best as it looks from the ads or promotions. But if you really have to seek for spontaneous needs, call a local tourist guide and ask them what they think.

A tourist guide to find a house???? Rent a bike and drive around yourself looking for houses with rent / contract signs up, to avoid hefty commissions to locals. A tourist guide will not be finding you a house from the goodness of his heart but for the commission he will receive. As a foreigner you will probably be quoted more to start with, add someone on a commission into the equation and your rent goes up even more.

Yea its better to jump on a bike and drive around, take numbers and if you have a local friend get them to call. Having a local friend will save you big money, having a local friend who can barter will save you even more :)

maybe but i had a good experience from a local tourist guide before and besides, i don't have all the time in the world to compensate the bike-look around scheme.

If you are going to rent for a year or more it is good advice to look around and take a bit of time in making your decision which once made cannot be changed.

There are plenty of low cost accommodations you can stay whilst looking around. Good luck in your search.
    Regards Jimbo
