Default Family Visa as Kitas holder

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can help us with this. My husband is currently here on a sos-bud visa (60 days, renewable up to 6 months, on a monthly basis) and we are in the process of applying a family kitas for him - I am his sponsor, as I am an Indonesian passport holder. We were informend that this above mentioned visa is valid for 5 year and the Kitas is valid for 1 year (renewable up to 5 times). One agent told us that my husband has to leave the country (eg. go to Singapore) to be able to have the visa endorsed in his passport and another one (of course asking a higher fee) told us that he does not have to leave Indonesia, as they can 'transfer' his current sos-bud visa to a family visa.

So, we are clueless now, which one to take. Any comments from the experts:) Sorry, if this question has been asked and answered before. I tried to read the info on expatid, but to be honest, it's so confusing. Thanks.

    Hello Zoyra,

as far as i know from my past you´ve to leave Indonesia if you change from sosbud to a kitas, that is standard, but here in the forum some people even told that you can extend tourist visas which was impossible a couple of years ago so i´m confused now

But 1 thing I know: If you get a new working permit & KITAS you HAVE to leave Indonesia...

I´d fly to Singapore for 1-2 day....no worries later with fraud stamps!

    Cheers Marc

Thanks Marc, just an update. It is confirmed now (status of today - who knows) that it is not neccessary to leave the country if one is holding a sos-bud visa. However, anything can still happen. So, I will keep you posted. But thanks a lot for the advice.
