I would have thought that fresh seafood has got to be better than frozen stuff but pehaps I am wrong.

Meat in Indonesia varies in quality and how it is butchered.

Sorry to rehash on old topic but I actually have the same question as Adam.

Heading over to Bali for a month in June and was thinking about packing some cryovaced meat. We grow our own meat on our farm, have just knocked off a few sheep and will be doing a steer in a couple of months. So it will all be pretty fresh or freshly frozen.

Has anyone brought meat into Bali in their luggage recently or know of any problems doing this?

Adam, would be interested in hearing if you went ahead and how you went.

    Hi Denis,

Yep, a fair while ago now but I had no problems then nor a few times afterwards either. I haven't done it recently, but I'm sure it still wouldn't be a problem, with the exception perhaps of difficulties with the airlines as I have noticed AirAsia have some rules about transporting meat and seafood.

I have my own cryvac machine and just made sure that all the packets were well sealed to prevent any leakage. Having said that, the storage compartments of planes is/must be freezing cold, I could pack my meat amongst clothing in Perth, fly to Bali and unpack there (some six-ish hours including all stuffing around) and it would still be rock solid.

Don't forget to declaring it on your incoming customs card but. I always did and never had a problem.

    Cheers mate,
    Adz

    Thanks Adam,

Sounds like we should be sweet then. Did you get pulled up for an inspection of your goods at customs on arrival in Bali?

Seriously? Putting fresh livestock in your luggage is a bit new. I rather ask for overseas delivery from credible dealers.

Not really sure if this is a snipe at Adam or myself. Maybe I'm just being sensitive.

We are talking about small quantities for personal use. Adam mentioned in one of his earlier posts about how expensive it is to use one of the credible dealers at the airports.

Why would I use a dealer when my livestock has been hand raised by me and I know exactly how and when it was butchered. It is top quality and works out extremely cheap. The villa we are staying in has cooking facilities and a BBQ so why not come prepared I say!

Be careful guys I am going over in a few months and want to take meat and I read (can't remember where now) that there are new laws and they were clamping down on bringing meat in. I hope I am wrong. I guess maybe it depends who is working that day
