Hi all, just want to say thank you for all your advice. I bought the stove/oven/cooker (gas - thanks again, never thought about it before) at Kartika Electronic in Denpasar. Carrefour and Macro (Lotte) are only selling the cooker/burner (the one you put on the kitchen counter). So, just in case, someone is looking.

hello Zoyra,i live not far from blabatuh,so i have to go most of the time to Denpasar if i want something specific.Do you mean the shop in the kartika discovery mall on the seafront in Kuta?
have you been to Bagoes bangoenan yet?Not far from you, general D.I.Y.S. shop in Semebaung. They have more choice for bathrooms, sell a lot of brands among wich Toto.Drive north from the pasar Blabatuh, buruan road,at the end turn right towards Gianyar.Bagoes.B is after a few hundred meters on the right. It is hughe! Miar harum in Gianyar is also a Toto agent.(opposite the telkom office)
BTW,on the Buruan road you also find Putra Manilla ,also a big shop with tools etc, good choice, and what is very handy, their own electric tools repair department.have it fixed while you wait.
    Good luck with building renovating.

Hello Hermit, Kartika Elektronik is located at Jl. Raya Kuta - there are several shops on that road selling home appliances. By the way, we are not building a house (I wish..), but we moved into a rental property (actually very close to Putra Manila - but you can't see the house from the main road) and needed to buy appliances. Thanks for the tip about repairwork at Putra Manila - who knows, might be handy, so far so good - knock wood.

I do think it is very wise to move into an existing house.Save the ricefields! If you need any tukang/workers for small renovations, let me know,i have a whole pool of workers by now.bagoes Bangunan has a better choice of screws and hooks and things like that than Putra manila, all the small things you need when starting up a household.
Any other questons,do not hesitate to ask.we are almost neighbours and i know the neighbourhood quite well by now.

And I'll be another neighbour when our house is completed. We are building near Kemenuh.

    Default hello neighbours

Well, hello to both of you (Pollyana and Hermit) - my first neighbour moved out before I got to know him. So far, we only know our landlady - we are renting the place, as we don't want to commit yet - who lives on the same compound. Pollyana, do you mean Kemenuh, on the same route where you go to the waterfall (tegenungan or something) - there is a huge villa on the right hand side, and there are several villas on a compound (villa niyah or something) - is this where you are building your home? If yes, then it's really close to our place

Zoyra, yes, we are building in Tegenungan on past Villa Niah but we are building a small 2 bedroom house, not a large villa. We are expecting to finish in another, say, nine months and aren't going to get in a dither about how long it takes, within reason. Our construction site is on the river side of the road.

There are rivers on both sides of the road Polyanna! That makes that spot so special and extremely beautiful.Good choice, although i hope you will be the last to build there.(Also for your own view)Four years ago it was pristine landscape.Same for the spot where now are all the plantsellers between Kemenuh and Mas,formerly only ricefields.,now plants on both sides of the road.On a clear day you can still admire from there the view on the northside, you can see the whole range of volcanos.
shall i tell you a secret? It rains a lot less there than in Ubud.Dont tell everybody ot it will get overcrowded.

Well, we don't want it to rain a whole lot less. We're putting in a rainwater catchment system to do our part in not reducing the Bali water table any further. We'll also drill a well but only use it when the rain water tanks are dry.

You're right about the mountains. We have a great view of Mt. Agung on clear days or very early in the morning. We are on the east side of the road. You know more about where we're going to live than I do.

How exiting pollyanna, wish you lots of good luck with the house, I can imagine it's not always easy and smooth. If you need any help with communication (although I am assuming that most of the workers speaks balinese), I speak bahasa Indonesia (I am Indonesian, returning back after 35 years.. - so it's similar like a new relocation experience).
