An Indonesian court has sentenced a man to 20 years in jail for murdering a Japanese tourist on the resort island of Bali.

A panel of judges at the Denpasar District Court found Mawardi _an Indonesian national who goes by only one name _ guilty Wednesday of stabbing to death Hiromi Shimada last December.

The 41-year-old woman's naked body was found in her rented home near Kuta beach. She had multiple stab wounds and her legs had been tied together.

Presiding judge I Gusti Bagus Komang Wijaya said the murder had hurt Bali's image as a famous tourist destination.
