Actually I do remember the name of an excellent spot, called Warung Sulawesi. I forget the actual name of the road i is on, it is in the petitenget/oberei area. I'm sure someone else knows it and can give the correct street name.

Yes - they are good, I haven't been to that one - but there is another in Denpasar in Jl Teuku Umar opposite the Commonwealth bank. Click the map for details.

The tastiest seafood meal I have had in Bali was at a warung called Ham Le - on the road heading from Nusa Dua to Kuta, but closest to Nusa Dua. Just a simple warung next to a motor bike repair shop, you could choose the seafood from the ice box and pay by the kilo, the food cooked on a coconut husk bbq. We had a whole fish, some prawns, kerang and kangkung all served with sambal and nasi. It wasn't cheap by warung standards but it was such tasty fresh seafood. My favourite was the kerang, fat and juicy served in the shell and smothered in sambal.

    Yeah Calitobali
I agree - Warung Sulawesi is one of my local favourites too. Its in Jl. Petitenget - there is a small Gang exactly opposite Warung Europ. And just at the beginning of this Gang is Warung Sulawesi. Open everday except sundays for lunch. And normally full during lunch time - so the food must be good :-)

If you mean Obonks, when you are at the roundabout on the bypass/Jalan Sunset intersection Jalan Setiabudi is the other road off the roundabout that heads down to Kuta. And Obonks is a few hundred meters down on the right hand side.

Here is where Google Earth says it is - pretty easy to find near the big round-about on the by-pass.

Did somebody mention already Warung Kolega in Jl Petitenget? That's the best valued Javanese food I came across on Bali in the last 3 years.

It's very consistent every day, lot's of choices and fair prices. I love Warung Sulawesi also, but as a bule you sometimes pay (much) more than the locals. A similar amount of veggies, tofu, tempe and nasi kuning in Warung Sulawesi costs me always at least double price compared to Warung Kolega. I understand that it's a different cuisine with different spices and all, but somehow it's also not *that* different for me to justify the price difference. Warung Kolega sets me back usually around 12-14K Rupiah, while Sulawesi I pay usually around 22-26K Rupiah for similar food. Warung Sulawesi also uses lots of MSG.

And yeah, both Sulawesi and Kolega are closed on Sundays. Then it's time for Warung Murah at the intersection of Jl. Petitenget towards the extension of Jl Legian (don't know the name of this one). Here the choices are less, the food tastes a bit more plain, but the cheap prices, great sambal, friendly staff and the family atmosphere make up for that.

Or, if you prefer a fellow Expat sitting next to you, try Warung Murah in Jl Double 6, which has nothing to do with the above Warung Murah, if I'm not mistaken. Also here, the pricing strategy is sometimes strange to understand, especially for meat and fish items.

A good 24/7 option is Warung Pojok on Jl. Legian, next to the Megabank, near the intersection to Jl Sunset. I especially love their Tofu/Tempe/Telur/Eggplant Lalapan for only 8.000 Rupiah. And they have the cheapest Es Teh, for only 2.000 a pop. Nice place after clubbing in the early morning hours, when it's the only place open, but a bit bland during the day.

Until this month my favourite sate was always from a warung in Lombok however lately we have been getting sate from a stand here in Puri Gading, Jimbarn Rp6,000 for 10 sticks and it is the best sate yet :) 50 sticks last night for Rp30,000 and still some left today to snack on.
