Om Bert...count me in. I must say though, that for me anyway, your current link didn't work...BUT that is of no matter, as it certainly will if you want it to.

Your site idea reminds me of a great and inspirational movie, Field of Dreams, and the forever remembered line, "if you build it, they will come."

The fact is though that hundreds of great Bali related internet sites already exist.

In my humble opinion, what is needed is not yet another site promoting Bali, or even a pro Bali site uniquely targeted to counter-act the "Fug" site, but rather, the dissolution, removal, and forever to disallow this site that propagates lies and untruths about Bali.

In my view, harvested from my background and life experience, in this situation, it is better to carry a very large, and sharp sword, than a pen. But…that’s just me, and I freely admit, may not be the consensus.

My current link doesn't work because its a fantasy domain...

Maybe you are right, about this sword, and it would be hard to assemble them all to do this, but you may never know...

Maybe it creates more problems then it solves :)

    Hi Bert,

I was thinking about your idea with the counter strike site to Fugly-Bali
    .
So when I search the net regarding Bali, I will find thousands and thousands of websites, the question is who’s providing all these sites?

    1. The commercial sites of the hotels, resorts, restaurants, business in general.
2: The travel agencies in general, this can be a small provider of tours as well as the Thomas Cook, Garruda, Quantas, Tui, whatever.
    3. There are masses of private websites, people who travelled to Bali and like to share their experiences, their photos, their impressions.
    4. Websites which are dedicated to one special topic related to Bali, provided by scientists, Government or Non-Government organisations, private studies, works, research and many other possible or thinkable expositions of diverse things.

So what can I say about these 4 categories of websites?

Number 1: The simplistic goal of these site is to promote a product, the focus of all these sites is on the
subject and the subject is always the product, this can be a hotel room, a boat tour, a painting or simply an umbrella.

Number 2: The airlines, travel agencies are selling special hotels, resorts, flights, but all related to Bali, so they are advertising a special product, but in context with an advertising for Bali itself.
They have to emphasize Bali in comparison to other places spread all over the world.
They cannot sell the resort, without the beach, the surroundings, the land.

Number 3: Private websites are reflecting the subjective impression of the individual visitor to Bali, the topic and the content of a private website will always rely on personally preferences, skills and the passion of the creator.

Number 4: In this category, I would like to put all these sites, which are only dedicated to one special topic, the scientific long term research of rice, the historical study of Barong dance, the site about artists on Bali, or the site about the experiences of an 55 yrs old lady from Melbourne with some 22 yrs old boys from Kuta beach.

In summery there are commercial sites, mostly adulated for the tourist’s eyes, there are private sites, good or not,
but theses sites are not frequented a lot and there are sites for specialists, whatever passion they might have, the
majority will not be very interested in it.

I have met a lot of expats during my travelling all over the world, I have stated many times that I envy some of
them, but for the most I felt compassion, because this is the truth.
The most of them will come back home, disillusioned, lost and sad, there are so many Aliceinbali stories and
nobody, who was ever successful found at first what he/she had expected.

This forum was created out of the recognition, that expats or some experienced individual travellers do have
other interests, that somebody living on the place others call their home for two weeks a year has to deal with
different things, the view will be different and of course these people will recognize things, the average
    tourist will never see.
The forum was created simply because there was a need for it and when I read here the postings, then this project
became very successful, I enjoy the postings here and I have learned something also I’m not able to contribute a
lot, simply because I am not an expat.
What makes this forum interesting and unique is, it is reflecting the liberal attitude of its owner, it’s reflecting the
relentless truth, its an exchange of knowledge, experiences and personal reflections.

The expats living on Bali will know about the truth, they know its not paradise, they have all made negative
experiences, they will know about faked smiles and also some other things, BUT they also will know why they
have chosen to live exactly here despite of this all, they will know to tell, what made them loving this place and
    they could tell about this.

I read every single sentence on this annoying website, I don’t like this site, in my point of view this site gives a
wrong impression of Bali, I also don’t like the stimulus of the creator of this site, because it was simply cold
revenge and revenge is always destroying something, it’s never constructive.

Maybe, it’s on the time to create a website which shows Bali like it is, maybe its time to provide the world an
expat’s viewpoint over Bali, I don’t see this as a counter strike to Mr. Austin’s site, I would like to see this in the
spirit this forum was once created, contructive.
It’s neither important what Mr. Austin will think about Bali nor is it important to prove where and that he is
wrong, simply the truth would be nice, the truth about Bali.

Bali is not paradise or the garden Eden, it is a place on earth with human beings, they have habits, traditions, a
religion, but they are no Angels.
The experience of the expats could show us outsiders, where the difference is.

Yes, I think it’s the right time to make this website Bert.

    My best regards

    Hi Bert

Sounds like a lot of work to me.

If MA owns/runs the fugly site (and from what I understand, there seems little doubt), the "project" becomes one of cyber censorship, of sorts. No - I correct myself. It's a problem of how to remove/prevent undersirable individuals from creating/disseminating rubbish on the Web. Now that seems to me to be a huge undertaking, albeit a valiant one.

I, for one, would like to know the avenues available, (that actually work), for dealing with electronic libel.

Then again, in the case of this particular rat-bag, I am prepared to do everything possible to curtail his activities. So - count me in, by all means.

What really gets me is that even though I haven't personally met MA, I am positive he's a raving lunatic...so: how come the people who work with him or for whom he works haven't seen that yet? He's been around for quite a few years. Mystery to me.

Good question. Isn't he much of a loner though? Couldn't one run all these internet businesses pretty much on their own? Then again, he would at least have to employ packers for all those pills he sells, eh? Or, maybe not, if his pill business is just a tie in to a larger business with distribution.

Anyway, it sounds like we have a club, which I'm certain "you know who" will define as a conspiracy.

You're right, Roy. Of course he can run everything alone. More's the pity.

Is there some way someone could convince him to take all his pills at once? Now - that's an interesting possibility.

For others reading this thread, can I just say sorry for your being here. This stuff has been going on way too long and for most people, is of no particular interest. Several of us, however, have been targeted by the mad-sick-guy...if you know where the sites we're referring to are, have a look and judge for yourself. After that, post him, perhaps, suggesting that he grows up.

And one last thing - (This is for Bert) - At the end of the day, maybe it'd be a good idea to remove all the posts referencing you know who. I mean by that that this is not some kind of recruitment zone for cyber warriors, no matter how just their causes might be. The less attention/exposure he gets, the better. Can't all this be more private - run in the background? I don't think waving red flags at colour-blind bullshitters is having the desired effects.

    Hmmm, I don't know....

You know who, (Mark Austin for those that don't know who is who) should he be allowed to do what he does without telling anyone that there is a different point of view?

Actually maybe its nice that he mentions me on his website, people may want to looks where this expat forum is, and who this Bert Vierstra actually is....

Maybe then they find out who Mark Austin is 8)

And that there is a Roy, defending Bali and the Balinese and makes people look at themselves instead of blaming others....

    Hmmmmm

Maybe we should leave it like it is for now.... Lets conspire

BTW, did you knwo that MA believes in time travel so there will be life after death or something...

    http://www.eternalsafety.net/

It even has a forum !

It's true, statistically, we all have the right to eternal life / immortality after death. Courtesy, not of God or intangible divinity, but of the technology our descendents will possess. That is, their ability to develop a gateway back through time, to scan our minds / souls, and then recreate us in the future.
