    Default Tools for self defence

Just sharing this if someone would be interested. After having read a story on Balipod of a family being robbed at their home, I have been on the lookout for pepperspray.

I found a shop in Kuta which sells all kind of police and military accessories. It's new. They have pepperspray, tasers and those steel antennae style of sticks that you can pull out like a whip and hit someone badly with.

The pepperspray was 125 000 rp (small size fits about size of hand). The steel whip comes in two sizes and was either 275 000 or 300 000 and tasers start at 700 000.

The shop is called CV Patriot. It's on Jalan Patih Jelantik (opposit Alta Moda). 0361 761 718

Appart from pepperspray they sell all kinds of military and police uniforms. They look very real actualy and I think it's the real stuff so if an Indonesian would like to scam someone by acting as a police than this is definitely the place to get equipped.

Ok. I thought you were being sarcastic there in your first post. I guess it's what you expect on this forum

I don't think pepper spray is an all-in-one solution against being robbed but it may help a little. I bought it for my wife who is "home alone" quite often when I'm working.

There was a hint of sarcasm but at the fact they sell the uniforms there as well !!! But I hear ya.

We're in the same boat as far as the work situation goes, hence my shopping expedition tomorrow

Thanks for the map, Ill need it, also for the post. Our safety has played on my mind a little so it will be good to have some sort of protection, better than nothing and maybe more psychological than anything.

    Cheers

Never carry a weapon unless you are prepared to use it. If you are just going to pull it out to scare an intruder you better hope they dont have any weapons themselves cos if they are facing jail time or worse if caught they will be likely to use theirs.

My house has been robbed twice (both times around Galungan when it was quiet and nobody around in the Perumahan). They used crowbars to get in through the windows so can you imagine facing down a person or people wielding crow bars with your pepper spray?

....now I have security bars and a dog, so far so good.

We’ve all heard and experienced how many of the Indonesians are afraid of dogs. I thought our dogs would be all the deterrent we needed but I was wrong. The Javanese who attacked us weren’t in the least afraid of our dogs and our four dogs were no match for their big bats. We thought they had killed one of our dogs when she jumped to defend us. That bat cracked loudly on the top of her head and down she went. She is a big dog who can put her paws on my shoulders and I’m tall so size wasn’t a deterrent either.

The reason they were not afraid of the dogs is because they had done some work at our house and knew the dogs were not dangerous.
